A splash of natural wonder
Undoubtedly the tallest single-drop waterfall in Mauritius, the Chamarel Waterfall is a striking piece of nature standing amid dense vegetation. Fed by the waters of three distinct streams flowing into the Saint Denis River and the Viande Salée River, it has a powerful rush with a peak flow rate of 40,000 m³ per minute.
Towering at nearly 100 meters, Chamarel Waterfall is the highest in Mauritius, a stunning natural marvel set amidst lush tropical scenery.
Surrounded by dense forest and endless greenery, Chamarel Waterfall invites you into a world of pure nature. Feel the fresh air, hear the water falling, and stand still in a breathtaking setting where time slows down and everything feels beautifully untouched.

Chamarel Waterfall flows over two distinct lava layers: brecciated basalt from 10-8 million years ago and a younger layer formed between 3.5 and 1.7 million years ago.
With sweeping views, layered geology and constant flow, Chamarel Waterfall is among the island’s most visited sites, a landmark where time, terrain and movement meet in balance.
Chamarel Waterfall offers changing light, mist and framing throughout the day. Whether you shoot wide angles or details, this is one of the island’s most rewarding spots for nature photography.
